Full disclosure: I've had a soft spot for Burgas Coliving since I followed the renovation story four years ago. So I arrived with expectations roughly the size of a small cathedral. Six weeks later, I'm glad I came — and glad I stayed, which is worth mentioning, because at one point "leave early" was sitting on my mental to-do list somewhere between "maybe" and "where did I put my passport." Then things changed. Mostly because of people. I got lucky early. I met a few humans I clicked with immediately, and a few more I clicked with slowly, like a stubborn seatbelt. Over the weeks that turned into something solid, and that turns out to be the actual product here. About the location: it's genuinely great, and it's a few kilometres outside Burgas. Depending on your personality, that's either a feature or a bug. Want quiet, focus, deep work, and nobody bothering you? Perfect. Want to see the region? You'll need a bus schedule and a small amount of initiative. The bus exists. The bus works. The bus is not the problem. The problem is that a place this comfortable will happily let you spend three weeks orbiting between your desk, a neighbourhood walk, and the nearest Lidl — and then fly home having technically been to Bulgaria. I briefly became that guy. I regret nothing, and also everything. What saved me was a handful of guests with more energy than me who essentially dragged me out the door: the salt lakes, a village up the coast with what I'm fairly confident is the best seafood in the region and objectively the best sunset, and someone who actually knew the area and narrated it beautifully. Best evenings of the whole trip. If I had one wish for next season, it's more of that baked into the place — a nudge, a plan, someone saying "bus leaves at four, bring shoes." When it happens, it's magic. When it doesn't, everyone quietly defaults to Lidl. Katya, the host, gets her own paragraph. She is somehow running approximately 289,429 jobs at once and still genuinely cares about the people, the community, and the region. That passion is the fuel the whole place runs on. The volunteers are fantastic — not just at the actual job, but at getting new people oriented. Without them, most guests would wander around like headless chickens and never make it past, yes, the Lidl. And the community itself: not every day is a highlight reel, but a wildly mixed group of strangers plus a host who cares is surprisingly good entertainment. Already looking forward to next season — the host, some of the guests, and Bulgarian life in Burgas again.

My only regret? Not booking longer. I'll be honest, I almost didn't book Burgas Coliving. I was worried it would be too remote, too rural, not enough to do. I spent way too long overthinking it. One month in, I can tell you: biggest travel regret of my life was not booking two. Let's start with Katya. I've stayed in colivings across the world. I have never met a host like her. The energy she brings to this place is genuinely unmatched, she puts her heart and soul into every single day and you feel it from the moment you arrive. She organizes, facilitates, shows up, and somehow manages to make 15 strangers feel like family within a week. I couldn't match her energy if I tried. The community managers and volunteers were equally incredible — warm, engaged, and kept everything running seamlessly. This team is the real reason Burgas Coliving works. The community. We were roughly 10-15 people during my stay - the perfect size. Big enough that there's always energy, small enough that you actually know everyone. What blew me away was how genuinely easy everyone was to connect with. No cliques, no awkwardness. Within days it felt like I'd known these people for months. An activity EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Sunday brunch with the whole house planning the week together. Family dinners. BBQs in the garden. Bonfires under the stars. Skillshares where people taught each other genuinely useful things. Watching FIFA matches together with everyone losing their minds. And none of it felt forced, everyone actually wanted to be there, wanted to do things together. The beauty of it is you're never obligated. Want to skip a dinner and work? Fine. Want to join the bonfire at 11pm after your work calls? Even better. It's your pace, your choice. The practical stuff: Room was private ensuite - clean, comfortable, everything you need. WiFi was flawless throughout. Dedicated call room available if you need privacy. The setup for remote workers is genuinely thought through. The garden deserves its own paragraph - hammocks, fire pit, petanque, yoga deck, outdoor coworking. I spent more time in that garden than I have in any café in any city. It becomes your living room, your office, your therapy. The remote location concern: Yes, it's 15km from Burgas city. Yes, there's no Uber Eats. And yes - I genuinely don't care, and neither will you after day 3. There are restaurants and shops within walking distance. The bus to the city runs reliably until 11pm and costs less than €1. And honestly? Once you're in the house, the city feels irrelevant. Everything you need is right there. Final thought: I've done colivings across the world. Burgas Coliving sits at the top. Not because of the garden or the facilities - but because of the people who run it and the community they build every single season. If you're on the fence: book it. Burgas Coliving does coliving right! Private rooms for quiet time but the option to engage in as many group activities as your schedule allows. Big coworking space but also a garden with hammocks, tables, and strong WiFi for working. Regular group workouts/yoga, weekly family dinners, city outings, beach days, and skillshares. The town has the amenities you need and you are right next to the bus stop to go into the city easily. Katya is the best host and will help you arrange anything you need. Truly a beautiful place to spend a month building community 💛
